Sally Field has played a flying nun, a union rabble-rouser and a steely Southern mama in her time (among dozens of other roles). But she's not necessarily known for appearing in blockbuster summer superhero films like "The Amazing Spider-Man." But as she told Willie Geist Monday on TODAY, she took the role of Aunt May on, script unseen, for a friend, producer Laura Ziskin, who died in 2011 before the new film could be completed.
"She's an amazing producer, did all the 'Spider-Man' movies ... she's a real hero -- she started the whole Stand Up to Cancer (charity), she raised millions and millions of dollars, brought all of the absolute first class scientists together for cancer research, breast cancer, she had breast cancer and unfortunately she did not live to see her last efforts," said the Oscar winner. "That's why I was there."
